People who make up the Friends of the Library groups in the Sarasota County Library System are people like you, your family members, your neighbors and others in the community who support the library's goals and services. They are active advocates of the library and help raise community awareness and appreciation of its many services and resources. Through their efforts, individually and as a group, the Friends help bridge the gap between a good library and being recognized as a great library. | | | What do the Friends actually do? | The most prominent Friends "institution" in the library is the used bookstore. The Friends operate bookstores or ongoing book sales in every library with the money raised supporting a wide variety of activities.
Here are some examples of projects the Friends do: - Sponsor book discussion groups
- Fund Summer Reading Program activities
- Purchase enhancement equipment
- Purchase books and other materials
- Support youth and adult programs
- Host author events
- Deliver books to homebound library patrons
- Support library volunteer programs
- Fund staff development activities
